Ubuntu 23.10 End of support, upgrade immediately

We remind you that Ubuntu 23.10 “Mantic Minotaur” reached its end of life yesterday, July 11, 2024, which means that it will no longer be supported with software and security updates.

ubuntu

Named “Mantic Minotaur”, the Ubuntu 23.10 it was released last year on October 20th and was an interim release that only had nine months of support with updates. Ubuntu 23.10 ran from the Linux 6.5 kernel series with the GNOME 45 desktop.

As of yesterday July 11, 2024, Canonical will no longer release updates to Ubuntu 23.10 systems, which means that over time, your installations will become vulnerable to all kinds of attacks.

Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade to Ubuntu 24.04 “Noble Numbat”, which will be supported for up to 10 years, as it is an LTS (Long Term Support) series release. Ubuntu 24.04 LTS features the latest GNOME 46 desktop and runs from the Linux 6.8 kernel series.

Without delay, if you want to upgrade your installations run the command in terminal:

update-manager -c

A notification window will appear stating that Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is available for update. Click on the "Upgrade" button and you will start with the upgrade.

The upgrade will take no more than 30 minutes. It would be a good idea to create a backup of your data before proceeding, in case something goes wrong.
