As of May 1, 2025, Canonical officially began development of Ubuntu 25.10 (codenamed Questing Quokka) and today released the first daily build ISO images for early adopters, application developers, and the general public to test them.

During the six-month development cycle, the daily build ISOs of Ubuntu 25.10 will be updated with many highly anticipated GNU/Linux technologies, such as the upcoming Mesa 25.1 graphics stack, the Linux 6.17 kernel series, as well as the upcoming GNOME 49 desktop environment.

The tools will be updated to recent versions such as GCC 15, GNU Binutils 2.45, Python 3.13, LLVM 20, Boost 1.88, and more. It also looks like Ubuntu 25.10 will be the first major Linux distribution to adopt sudo-rs as the default sudo implementation for Rust.
