Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS has just been released and is available for download. It is the first of 5 releases planned for “Resolute Raccoon” over the next 3 years.
The release doesn't add any new features, but it does bring a refreshed installation image (.iso) that includes all the bug fixes, security patches, and package updates released since the release of Ubuntu 26.04 LTS in April.
The new ISOs are also available for various versions (Raspberry Pi, Arm64, RISC-V), as well as for the official Ubuntu versions that participated in the April LTS release.
Ubuntu 26.04 LTS was released on April 23 with GNOME 50, Linux Kernel 7.0, and two new default applications.
You don't need to download and reinstall anything if you're already using Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. Everything included in version xx.xx.1 is already on your system (if you've installed the updates).
The purpose of point releases is to provide periodic updates to the installation media, as this reduces the number of updates that need to be downloaded and applied after installation, saving users time and effort, and for Canonical, bandwidth.
Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
