Canonical has revealed the codename for Ubuntu 26.10, and it’s officially “Stonking Stingray.” If you’re into Linux, you’ll know that every Ubuntu release has this quirky name, a strange adjective plus some animal.
Thus, the company once again maintains tradition.
The name follows the alphabet, so the “S” ending was expected. Still, “Stonking” is a joke. It’s British slang that basically means big, impressive, or maybe even a little over the top. Combine that with “Stingray” and you have something that sounds less like a Linux version and more like a supercar (see Corvette Stingray).
Let's mention that Stingray means stingray...
Of course, as always, the codename doesn't tell us anything about what Ubuntu 26.10 will bring. There are currently no hints of new features. It's just a name. Ubuntu has always used a playful branding, and at this stage, it would be strange if we didn't see it.
It's official! The codename for Ubuntu 26.10 is… (Drum roll, please. 🥁)
…Stonking Stingray!

Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
