On the UCLA website (Los Angeles University) you will find books with a year of publishing from 1728 to 1999. The newer books are probably the minority. The oldest ones even contain illustrations on wood. All the books we tested (the oldest ones) had readable text in an image format, although some were a bit dark.
Books can be sorted by title, publication date and author. You can search using themeda, year, collection or creator. The default appearance they are thumbnails but you can also view them as a list.
