Project Manager Ubuntu MATE Martin Wimpress announced the availability of the MATE 1.14 desktop environment a few minutes ago, updated on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Xerus.
After weeks of work, Martin Wimpress and the Ubuntu MATE team managed to upgrade the MATE 1.12 interface that was available with the latest version of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS MATE (Xenial Xerus) by default.
In a PPA (Personal Package Archive) you can find all the packages needed to upgrade to MATE 1.14.1, so you can upgrade immediately, but also get automatic updates for future versions of the MATE interface.
“You may be wondering why they were needed two months to release this PPA. We have already tested version 1.14, so what you get today is the MATE Desktop bugfix in version 1.14.1.”
To install the new MATE 1.14.1 interface on your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, you must first add the PPA repository and then update your operating system by typing the following commands.
Add the new PPA to upgrade to Ubuntu MATE. When you run the command you will be prompted to accept the PPA entry.
sudo apt-add-repository ppa: ubuntu-mate-dev / xenial-mate
Refresh the cached packet list to see Ubuntu update packages
sudo apt update
Upgrade
sudo apt dist-upgrade
Enjoy the new MATE!
