If you try to scan the last file installations of uTorrent to services such as Virustotal you will notice that the popular application "hits" red.
uTorrent Classic, uTorrent Web, and BitTorrent are detected by many antivirus applications as malware. The main version, uTorrent Classic, is detected as malicious by ten antivirus applications: Microsoft Defender, Sophos, Eset Nod32, GData and Dr.Web.
What is detected? Most security applications report that the torrent client contains "PUA or Potentially Unwanted Applications".
The Windows Defender does not detect or block any unwanted programs by default. You should first enable the option for it to start checking executables archives. Microsoft's security solution prevented utorrent.exe from being downloaded.
Those who use uTorrent should think of switching to a torrent client. Applications qBittorrent or Transmission, are open source and come with no ads and unwanted programs added to your computer during installation.
