In addition to many changes to the operating system itself, the Windows 10 build 10547 also feature a notable change to the Browser of Microsoft Edge.
If you already have Windows 10 build 10547, you can enable the VP9 encoder. Let's see how.
VP9 is a special codec created by Google. As you know, such projects Google's is open code and are distributed completely free of charge.
All major browsers support this encoder, instantly without having to activate it. This means that: Chrome, Opera and Firefox can play videos encoded by this codec and embedded on an HTML page. Microsoft thought it good not to support it initially (perhaps and why the Windows 10 release was very hasty.)
From Windows 10 RTM, the default browser is Microsoft Edge, which does not inherently support the VP9 codec. However, Microsoft has decided to add support for VP9 to the new Windows 10 build 10547.
It can be activated via the flags page. There, the Edge browser can be "teased" by those who know how. If you want to test how VP9 works in Microsoft Edge, do the following:
In Microsoft Edge, type the following local address in the address bar:
about: flags
In the Experimental Features section, scroll down where you will meet Media Source Extensions.
Check the Enable VP9 checkbox. Once you turn it on, you will need to restart your browser.
After the browser is restarted, Microsoft Edge will be able to manage Web pages that contain embedded online videos encoded with the VP9 codec.
