W10 for Exiles, KDE's proposal for Windows 10 users

KDE has launched the new “ W10 for Exiles ” campaign to encourage users to forget about Windows 11 and consider switching to Plasma if they are running Windows 10. The new campaign comes five months before the Windows 10 end of support date, which is October 14, 2025.

"Are you using Windows 10 on your computer? On October 14th, Microsoft wants to turn it into trash."

The KDE campaign takes a very aggressive tone against Microsoft, stating that the end of support for a product is blackmail. Of course, Microsoft also runs very aggressive campaigns promoting its products. Products we never asked for (see Edge).

At least the KDE project doesn't state something that isn't true.

“Even if you agree to this technological blackmail, in a few years, they will do it again as they have done many times in the past,” the KDE project page states.

KDE reminds us that Windows has ads, full-screen pop-ups, and more, which Plasma doesn't have.

What can you do

Upgrade smartly! Keep your machine and try Linux and Plasma.

Linux can breathe new life into your computer. Combined with the KDE Plasma desktop, you can enjoy all the security, stability, and high-tech benefits of Linux, with all the features of a beautiful, modern, and powerful graphical environment.

It will work on the machine you already have. Even 10, 15 year old machines can run Plasma without a problem, a modern, secure operating system that will not disappoint you.

You can get Plasma from many Linux distributions (here are a few).

You can install Linux yourself—installing Linux isn't as difficult as it used to be, but you'll need to read the instructions.
