Cloudflare unveiled its first VPN product called Warp. The new service will start as part of the 1.1.1.1 application very soon.
April 1 is probably the worst day to make announcements on new products. Cloudflare obviously gets used to it because it also announced the DNS service 1.1.1.1 the 2018 Protopril.
Cloudlfare refers to the new Warp service as a "VPN for people who do not know what a VPN means".
According to the company, the simplicity of the upcoming service will make it attractive for everyone, even for those who do not know what a VPN can do.
Technically, Warp is and VPN. However, we think the market for VPNs as it's been imagined to date is severely limited. Image trying to convince a non-technical friend that they should install an app that will slow their Internet and drain their battery so they can be a bit more secure. Good luck.
The new Warp service will encrypt the user's entire Internet traffic, end-to-end encryption, and will not require users to install a root certificate on their devices.
Internet connections will be encrypted, but only between the user's device and the Cloudflare server. The same applies to all other VPN services.
Cloudflare, however, promises that the performance, reliability and focus of the new VPN service on maintaining end-user control will be the features that will make it stand out from other comparable services.
Cloudflare VPN service will be offered for free as an option of the 1.1.1.1 application. However, the company also seems to be developing the Warp + service, a premium version of Warp that will be available at a "low monthly charge" for people who want more speed.
