Η Western Digital has several rows of hard drives, and has given them color names. Black, Blue and Green. The Red series is the newest series, and is mainly intended for storage devices connected to the network. The latest release in this series is called the WD Red 6 TB, because, apparently, it has a capacity of 6 TB.
Western Digital has already released discs in 5TB and 6TB, but the last series is remarkable, because the new model has this capacity and uses no sun.
It has been found that, in order to add an extra plate that would allow 5-6TB capacities on a hard disk, the interiors had to be sealed with a sun, a gas that had a much lower density than the air and prevents the discs from being distorted.
The WD Red series does not seem to use sun, which suggests that the increase in capacity was achieved only by increasing the density per disk.
In any case, the new WD Red series, like the WD Red Pro series, boasts 3D Active Balance Plus technology for better overall performance and reliability.
The WD Red series is priced at 249 dollars at 5 TB, 299 for the WD Red series on 6 TB, and from 159 to 259 dollars the WD Red Pro series on 2 TB and 4 TB.
