WhatsApp: how do I delete messages I've sent?

WhatsApp added a new feature to the messaging application that you can use to delete the messages you have sent.

The messages you have sent so far could not be deleted. There was no grace period for her of sending and so many have been asking for such a feature that works similar to how Gmail works which has undo options shortly after sending messages.

This is changing with the new updated app released for Android, iOS and Windows Phone devices.

The new feature however has some requirements that need to be met.

  1. Messages can only be deleted if it is not seven minutes since they have been sent.
  2. Sender and recipients should use the latest one of the WhatsApp application.

WhatsApp will not notify you if the message was not successfully deleted. It may appear to have been deleted on the device that te, but not deleted on the recipient's device. Also, recipients may be able to see the message before it is deleted.WhatsApp

So let's see how you can delete the messages you've sent using WhatsApp:

The process is simple.

Find the message you want to delete, and press and hold it.
Optional: You can tap more messages to mark them and delete them all at once.

Deleted messages appear in the chat history (as shown in the above figure) along with a chronological sign that shows when they were deleted. Please note that there is no option to reset the deleted messages.

WhatsApp says that the feature is already rolling out, but it will take some time for it to be available to everyone. This happens because, as we mentioned above, this specific function requires the latest version of the application, and from the parts.

The only downside of the new one (although it may be fixed in future versions of the app) is that you won't know if the message was deleted from the recipient's device, and if they've read it or not.
