WhatsApp is reportedly working on ways to back up your chats to a place other than Google Drive or iCloud. Meta wants to host chat backups on its own servers, with end-to-end encryption to keep user data safe. It is expected that there will be a free plan and a paid one.
On the free plan, users will get 2GB of storage for their chat backups, while paid users will get 50GB for $0,99 (it's unclear if that's per month or per year). In screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, Android users will have the option to choose a chat backup provider, WhatsApp or Google.
Chats will be protected with a passkey, so you can access them with your fingerprint, face, or app lock. The passkey will be stored in your password manager. Backups will be encrypted with a 64-digit encryption key, which seems secure.
WABetaInfo he also says It is not known whether the free storage will be for everyone or only for those who are subscribed to WhatsApp Plus. If it is for everyone, then perhaps the paid plan will be added to WhatsApp Plus. We will find out after the new feature is released.
Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
