Whonix 18.2.3.3 the anonymous operating system

Whonix 18.2.3.3: Whonix (formerly called TorBOX or AOS by Advanced Onion Router Security) is a general-purpose operating system based on Virtual Box , Debian GNU/Linux , and Tor.

The most interesting feature of course is that with this operating system you are completely anonymous when you go online. Whonix is focused on privacy and security. Its basic philosophy is based on complete network isolation and protecting the anonymity of the user, by mandatorily routing all internet traffic through the Tor network.

• Let's see how.

You will need to download VirtualBox for “Windows Hosts” and the OVA file for Whonix. Once you have the necessary files, you can proceed with the installation of VirtualBox. This way you will have an anonymous operating system within the operating system you use every day.

Below are also the images of the distro for those interested in trying it out on their system.

Whonix's design does not allow leaks of your IP and DNS. Not even with root-level malware can someone learn the user's real location. Whonix does not run as a single operating system, but is divided into two separate virtual machines that run simultaneously: • Whonix-Gateway : This virtual machine takes care of the network management. It acts as an intermediary and runs the Tor client. All traffic passing through here is encrypted and routed through Tor. • Whonix-Workstation : This is the environment with which the user interacts. It includes programs such as the Tor Browser, email applications and other tools. This machine is completely isolated and does not know the real IP address of your computer.

So Whonix consists of two (virtual) machines. One machine runs only Tor and acts as a gateway, which the system calls Whonix-Gateway.

The other machine, referred to as the Whonix-Workstation, is a completely isolated network that only allows connections through Tor.
