Why Do not Use Open Source in Schools?

Open Source software, by its very nature, is the result of common need. In an open source project the most valuable thing is by definition the community. The community works together as a collective in order to respond to some common issues.
Without open source, many organizations and companies would not even exist. Although many people do not know it, the Internet runs Linux, commonly open source software and is every day over (365 days x 24 hours).
Companies like Google, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Amazon, eBay are based on Open Source cloud-based infrastructure and services.
So, if all these giants use open source, then ...

Then, what can be the reasons (or the unwritten "laws"?) That do not want to use Open Source software in the education system.
Given that Open Source software does not hinder students pedagogically or strategically, what or what are the real reasons that prevent its use in the classroom? There are two important reasons that while everyone understands them, no one talks about them.

It is certainly part of the commercial / proprietary software marketing strategy, which, among other things, often includes resources for teachers, either freely available or for some cost. These learning resources include lesson plans, standard documents or archives as well as published educational books. No one can deny that all this material makes the teacher's job much easier than a particular product comes with a structured course plan for that software program. Materials can also be provided to help teachers transition to a specific software program. Something that, as is understandable, is also part of a marketing strategy for products.

Another reason is that Open Source software, by definition, has nothing to do with marketing. It concerns the possibility of each interested party to be involved in the continuous development of open source, as a member of a community. This in itself reflects and enhances the innovation and collaboration that should be inherent to learning. And to είναι˙ όλοι μιλάνε για την καίρια σημασία της. Στην πράξη όμως; Γιατί, συνεργάζομαι, σημαίνει εργάζομαι μαζί με κάποιον άλλο. Κάτι τέτοιο, σαφώς, απαιτεί δουλειά και από την μεριά των προγραμματιστών αλλά και των χρηστών. Σίγουρα, αυτό, αποτελεί πρόκληση για τους ανθρώπους που απλά θέλουν να χρησιμοποιήσουν όποιο λογισμικό είναι διαθέσιμο. Μην ξεχνάμε πως η εκμάθηση ενός νέου λογισμικού μπορεί να είναι αποθαρρυντική από την στιγμή που ένα μεγάλο μέρος του εκπαιδευτικού υλικού περιλαμβάνεται στο εμπορικό λογισμικό.

And yet, there are so many effective ones teaching that is open source, such as the Open eClass, the integrated Electronic Course Management System, the moodle with incredible features and excellent tutorials and learning resources.
Therefore, if instead of seeing Open Source as a kind of software that is disadvantaged or less capable, we can see it as a huge opportunity that can really improve the future of our students by preparing them for a changing and evolving world rapidly.

Το Κίνημα του Ανοιχτού Λογισμικού (Open Source ), που δεν σχετίζεται με θέματα software μόνο, προάγει την νομιμότητα, την ανοιχτότητα, τον διαμοιρασμό και την επαναχρησιμοποίηση κώδικα, περιεχομένου, δηλαδή κειμένων, μουσικής, ταινιών, πληροφοριών, , αρχείων και γνώσης και μας εισάγει σε ένα κόσμο που λειτουργεί και πράττει βάσει ενός διαφορετικού συστήματος αξιών. Η χρήση Λογισμικού Ανοιχτού Κώδικα, η χρήση Ανοιχτού Hardware και η χρήση Ανοιχτής Αδειοδότησης είναι πλέον διαδεδομένη παγκοσμίως. Ταυτόχρονα, το Διαδίκτυο αποτελεί μια νέα πλατφόρμα εργασίας για μουσικούς, καλλιτέχνες, εικαστικούς και ακαδημαϊκούς ενώ τα νέα μέσα και κοινωνικά δίκτυα ή οι νέοι τρόποι χρηματοδότησης και επιχειρηματικής δράσης εξελίσσονται συνεχώς.

And this development should also be channeled into the nurseries of knowledge that are schools. Because knowledge is not something that is given to students, rather than something that arises from the active dialogue between those who try to understand and use concepts and techniques. Thus, education should not simply involve the outflow of the student with knowledge from the teacher. Knowledge acquisition is an interactive process, not a cumulative answer for Trivial Pursuit.

And Open Source has not just a future; it's the Future!
