The first 2.800 municipalities across Europe to win a €15.000 voucher for the program WiFi4EU. It is a free WiFi installation program with a total budget of 42 million euros.
Through WiFi4EU, the European Commission wants to ensure free Wi-Fi connectivity for citizens and visitors in public spaces such as parks, squares, public buildings, libraries, health centers and museums, everywhere in Europe.
The aim of the WiFi4EU program is to support with a budget of 120 million euros for the period 2018-2020 the installation of modern Wi-Fi equipment in social life centers.
Selected municipalities will be able to install points Wi-Fi in public places, such as town halls, libraries, museums, parks, squares and other places of public interest.
WiFi4EU vouchers will cover the cost of equipment and installation of wireless internet access points. The municipalities that receive the coupon are committed to cover the costs of connectivity (subscription for internet services) and equipment maintenance, with the aim of providing free and high quality Wi-Fi connectivity for at least 3 years.
The WiFi4EU coupon provides a fixed amount of funding of 15.000 euros per municipality. The municipalities that receive coupons will select the "public life centers" where WiFi4EU points (wireless access points) will be created. WiFi4EU coupons can also be used to partially finance a higher value project.
The coupon can be used to buy new or upgrade old equipment and replace it with modern and available equipment on the market.
Beneficiaries are selected in order of priority, and it will be ensured that all Member States receive a minimum number of coupons.
