Last year, we reported that the app Winamp would be back soon. Now it's here, Winamp 5.9 RC1 has just been released.
The new music player brings improved compatibility for Windows 11, support for vp8, https://streams, playback of compressed .itz, .mdz, .s3z and .xmz modules. The program now has a Podcast Directory. The browser tab has been removed from the Bento display.
In addition to the above changes, the update fixes some memory leaks and the in-app help link directs users to a new online Help section.
According to the release notes, the Winamp app has gone from build VS2008 to build VS2019 and now requires Windows 7 SP1 as the minimum OS requirement, meaning it stops supporting Windows XP and Vista.
Although not mentioned in the change logs, the update removes many of the old skins.
