A few days ago we published the “Winamp source code released"
There we reported that the company that has bought the popular app from has decided to release the source code on Github. The source code release includes build tools and related libraries for the Windows application, allowing developers to provide bug fixes and new features.
However, the license prohibits the distribution of modified software created from this code, which is against Github's regulations.
Let's talk in simple words: A company that had the money to buy the source code of a popular application in the '90s decided to “showcase” the source code (which it did not write) on Github.
Why Certainly not to show us that he has him.
Recall that the application was purchased in 2014 by Radionomy, today known as Llama Group.
Llama Group therefore prohibits the distribution of modified software created from the code it uploaded to Github, which violates the service's Terms of Service.
Llama Group probably saw fit to release the code to unpaid developers and let her wait quietly for the work to be done. According to the license no one will be able to add or change anything unless approved by Llama Group.
Of course the community reacts... and rightfully so
