NirSoft's latest tool, WinDefThreatsView, helps you manage your Windows Defender threats en masse. Let's take a closer look.
The WinDefThreatsView is a free, new software tool for Microsoft Windows 8.1 and 10, from the NirSoft site, which helps users manage threats detected by the built-in protection of Windows Defender Antivirus software on their operating system.
The Windows Defender Antivirus is the default antivirus solution in Windows 10. Users can certainly install a third-party software security. But for those who rely on Windows Defender to be safes, then WinDefThreatsView will take care of them.
The reason is that Windows Defender Antivirus is not specifically designed to give you many options for configuring and managing it. The program displays an alert when a threat is detected, but important control panels, such as threat history or various protections, are not easily found on the system and often require a lot of clicks and knowledge to open these menus.
Το WinDefThreatsView παρέχει μια εναλλακτική λύση, τουλάχιστον όταν πρόκειται για τη διαχείριση των εντοπισμένων απειλών. Το WinDefThreatsView είναι ένα δωρεάν πρόγραμμα, παρέχεται ως έκδοση 32-bit and 64-bit for Microsoft Windows 10 and 8.1 operating systems.
No installation required. Just download the zip file, unzip it, even to a usb flash, and run it from any location. The application records all the detectable threats that Windows Defender has found. For new threats, it is necessary to press the "Refresh" button and provided that the antivirus is already running, to re-scan and see the results.
The program loads the local computer data by default, but you can also use it to display the data of remote computer systems.
To do so select Options > Advanced Options. You should go to “Load threats data from remote computer” and specify the computer name and username / password accesss, if required.
Note that you can run the tool on a Windows 7 machine to connect to a supported operating system (Windows 8.1 or 10) using the Remote PC option.
All threats are listed with filename, threat name, severity, domain name and process name, initial detection and recovery time and data, threat ID and status, action, paths and more.
All data, or a selection of them, can be stored in various file types, including txt, csv, xml and json. Right-clicking on an option displays a menu with various commands. From there select "Set default action for selected threats" to select an action, e.g. quarantine, allow, block or remove. You can use it to manage all threats or a subset of threats at once, which greatly improves manageability.
You can also run the program from the command line but only to export threats to a new file that you have specified.
Briefly
WinDefThreatsView is a handy portable program for Microsoft Windows users and administrators and for systems running Windows Defender Antivirus. In addition to the useful option of managing multiple threats at once, it is also able to export threat data to various file formats.
