Last week, Microsoft released updates via Patch Tuesday for October 2024 for Windows 10 (KB5044273 / KB5044277 / KB5044293 / KB5044286) and Windows 11 (KB5044284, KB5044285, KB5042).
The company has also released a new update for the media creation tool to download the latest version (ISO).
As always, in addition to Patch Tuesday, Microsoft released new dynamic updates for WinRE (Windows Recovery Environment). These updates are also called secure operating system updates and installation updates. This time there are a lot of them, as there are updates for all versions of Windows 11, specifically for versions, 24H2, 23H2, 22H2 and 21H2.
For those who may not know, these Dynamic Updates packages are meant to be applied to existing Windows images prior to their release. In a company post on Techcommunity about Windows 10 dynamic updates, Microsoft explains Dynamic Updates in more detail. These packages include fixes to binaries, SafeOS updates to the Windows Recovery Environment, and more.
The company says:
Once a Windows 10 feature update is initiated, either from media or from an environment connected to the Windows Update service, Dynamic Update is one of the first steps invoked. Windows 10 Setup accesses a URL on the Internet hosted by Microsoft to retrieve dynamic update content, and then applies those updates to your operating system installation media.
These dynamic updates are not available through Windows Update and are only available by manual download from the Windows Update Catalog website.
