Windows 10 και Server: Η Microsoft κυκλοφόρησε σήμερα μια ενημέρωση security for a vulnerability in the SMBv3 protocol which was accidentally leaked online earlier this week during Patch Tuesday March 2020.
The update is available as KB4551762, for Windows 10, 1903 and 1909, and for Windows Server 2019, 1903 and 1909.
The bug allowed attackers to connect to remote systems where SMB was enabled and to run malicious code with SYSTEM privileges.
Earlier this week, due to leakageof a communication between Microsoft and certain antivirus companies, details released for this particular internet error.
Antivirus companies reported that the bug could be used to develop worms, with similar capabilities used by malware (ransomware) WannaCry and NotPetya the 2017.
So although Microsoft had no plans to release other fixes this month, it was eventually forced to release the current patch.
Today's fixes were probably released on time, and according to the company, the vulnerability only affects Windows 10 and Windows Server 2019 (1903 and 1909).
For those who cannot install the update directly, Microsoft has detailed vulnerability information on a separate security advisory.
