Windows 10 update KB5049981 has just been released. After a brief pause in optional updates in December 2024, Microsoft is releasing the mandatory January 2025 security update. KB5049981 is the first Patch Tuesday update for Windows 10 this year, and it comes without any new feature additions.
The only new things you'll see are advertising elements in the Start menu or the incessant prompt to upgrade to Windows 11 if your computer meets the official requirements.
The nature of Patch Tuesday updates is to protect you from risks, and the KB will automatically download and install on your computer. If it doesn't, do a manual check in the Settings app.
