Today you'll see how you can make Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 display your own custom message to users who are trying to log in.
If you want to surprise your friends, your family, but even if you work in a Windows environment where you have to manage hundreds of computers, read this article. With a simple security policy setting, you can display a custom message on the home screen before the user logs in.
This custom message, especially for IT professionals, could be the brand of the company you work for, but for home computers it could even be the "Do not touch" ban. Or it could be something you want to remind users of. Use your imagination to create your own personal message.
Once you make the following settings, the message you send will necessarily be read by users because they simply won't be able to log in unless they click OK on the message screen.
Let's see how you can display a custom message to users trying to sign in to Windows 10. The following steps apply only to versions of Windows Pro and Enterprise.
1. Press Win + R at the same time and in the executable window type the word secpol.msc and press the OK key. A new window will open with the Local Security Policy program.
2. Then in its left pane Local Security Policy, browse here:
Security Settings> Local Policies> Security Settings> Local Policies> Security Options
3. In the right pane of the window that appears (as in the photo above), look for a setting called “Interactive connection: Message text for users trying to connect”. Double-click this setting to modify it, and in the window that appears, add your custom message as shown in the screenshot below.
When you write your message click on the "Apply" button and then on the "OK" button.
4. Also, configure “Interactive connection: Message title for users trying to connect”Which you will find a little below in the list of settings (located a little below the previous setting). And there add a title to the custom message. Click the Apply button and then the OK button.
You can now log out of your account and when you try to log in next time, you will see the custom message on the screen. You will need to click the OK button after reading the message and then you will be able to log in.
