Microsoft seems ready to release Windows 10 October 2018 Update for the second time. This time, Microsoft is certain that it will not delete your files.
Microsoft reportedly fixed two different errors that led to data deletions in the original "fixed" version.
Yesterday 30 October 2018, Microsoft released the 17763.104 version of Windows 10 October 2018 Update for those enrolled in the Fast and Slow rings of the Windows Insider program. So if Microsoft moves the procedure normally the last step will be testing through the “Release Preview” ring, so the “new” version will be released to everyone.
According to the company, development is almost complete, unless more errors are detected in upcoming testing.
This latest version is reportedly correcting and the error found with .zip files. Microsoft has also fixed bugs in Task Manager and, of course, the huge problem that allowed Windows 10 to delete folders.
The corrected Windows 10 October 2018 Update is likely to be released to everyone next week if everything goes well.
We recommend, however, before installing and despite Microsoft's promises to back up your files and delay as long as you upgrade your system. Avoid clicking on "Check for Updates".
It remains to be seen if this time Microsoft will use the Release Preview ring. Recall that the first Windows 10 October 2018 Update was released without going through the normal testing process through the Release Preview ring?
As mentioned then by Ars Technica, the Windows 10 development process is completely wrong. Major errors like the ones presented should not occur to the average Windows user. Microsoft has reportedly fired many of its internal testers, and most of the testing is done by Insiders.
But many of the Insiders would not dare to install test builds on their main computers. This means that new versions of Windows 10 do not get enough real-world testing before they are released to unsuspecting users.
For now, and according to Microsoft the problems of the update have been patched, which should have been done since the first release.
