Microsoft just released a new version previewof Windows 10 for Insiders enrolled in the Beta and Release Preview channels.
Windows 10 is now in build 19042.572 and this is done with a simple cumulative update (KB4579311). Obviously the update only comes with performance improvements and bug fixes with no new features at all.
The update was released via Patch Tuesday, so it also contains security fixes. Microsoft says it has managed to fix a bug that allowed privileges to be changed in the win32k component. At the same time, it also fixed a bug affecting the way null ports were created in the user interface.
Additionally, this release includes "security updates for Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Media, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Authentication, Windows Virtualization, and Windows Kernel," as stated by Microsoft.
But there are improvements for her too service group policy:
"It simply came to our notice then political group service which may delete critical files in alphabetical order from %systemroot%\systm32. This issue occurs when a policy is configured to delete temporary saved profiles. These file deletions may cause a “0x5A (CRITICAL_SERVICE_FAILED)” stop error and system failures.movements", it says Redmond.
The Windows 10 October 2020 Update, called version 20H2, has already reached the final development stage and Microsoft has sent the final version to Windows Insider users.
In terms of making the update available to everyone, it is likely to launch later this month but it will happen gradually, as it is a service pack with minor improvements.
