Microsoft is already preparing the next big Windows 11 update for late 2024, codenamed “Hudson Valley,” with a greater emphasis on artificial intelligence.
In a new support document found for the first time since Windows Latest, Microsoft confirmed that “Windows 11 24H2” is real and will be released later this year.
The support document inadvertently confirmed the arrival of Windows 11 24H2. The documentation talks about the EnumDeviceDrivers function, a component used by developers and system administrators to work with drivers.
Microsoft's website sheds light on this feature, stating how it has evolved since Windows 7. The most notable update mentioned in the document is for Windows 11 Version 24H2. It states that Windows 11 24H2 changes the way the EnumDeviceDrivers function retrieves certain information.
While this document is aimed at developers, the accidental mention of Windows 11 24H2 is a hint at the next big version of Windows.
According to other internal documents, Microsoft is planning a wider release of Windows 11 24H2 in the late third or early fourth quarter. This confirms earlier rumors that Windows 11's most significant AI upgrade appears to be gearing up for a September-October release, with preview versions being tested internally.
Although are already circulating many rumors that the next version of Microsoft's operating system will be called Windows 12 are probably not true (as we mentioned earlier). Microsoft has reportedly decided not to release “Windows 12” after recent organizational reshuffles, and Windows 11 24H2 is the next big release.
This means that Windows 12 may not be released until 2024 and Microsoft will keep the Windows 11 branding for now.
PC makers like HP also use “Windows 11 2024 Update” when referring to the next major version of Windows. On the other hand, Qualcomm still uses an undefined term “Windows OS” when referring to the next version of Windows.
