Windows 11 24H2 presents more and more problems, such as compatibility problems with Dell and Asus computers, which may also affect users with other hardware. According to Dell, Windows 11 24H2 is causing an issue with shutdown not working properly. This means that your computer will not properly shut down or go to sleep.
First spotted by Windows Latest and confirmed by Dell in an additional statement, stating that Windows 11 24H2 hibernation and shutdown do not work. This only happens when Dell Encryption is installed and you upgrade to Windows 11 24H2.
Unfortunately, Microsoft has not blocked the upgrade, and Windows 11 24H2 is still offered on devices with incompatible hardware. Dell on the other hand is looking into the matter and a new version of Dell Encryption has already been released, which will be installed automatically.
Once Dell detects that you have an older version of the OEM software, it will try to update it so that you don't experience problems with Windows 11 24H2.
It is not known if Windows 11 24H2 has similar problems with other encryption software. For those who don't know, Windows 11 24H2 enables Bitlocker encryption by default on clean installs, regardless of the version of Windows you have.
However, Windows 11 24H2 also changes the way the Dolby Audio system works.
Windows 2024 update 11 deletes Dolby audio decoders, and audio will not play on some devices if they are not prepared for this change, especially when you clean install the operating system.
Microsoft has confirmed that Dolby Audio decoders are no longer pre-installed in Windows, starting with Windows 11 24H2. Asus has also acknowledged this change and pledged its commitment to 'excellent sound quality'.
Asus asked users to manually install Dolby Digital (aka Dolby AC-3) and Dolby Digital Plus (aka Enhanced AC-3, E-AC-3) if they don't have the drivers after updating to Windows 11 2024.
To restore Dolby sound on your ASUS device, first check if your product supports Dolby sound by going to the ASUS official website or checking the MyASUS app.
If your device supports Dolby audio and comes with a factory-installed ASUS Windows system, Dolby audio decoders are already included in the pre-installed audio drivers, so no action is required.
If your device does not have a factory-installed Windows system, you need to download the audio drivers for the specific model from the ASUS support page. After installing the drivers, connect your device to the internet and the Dolby audio decoders will be automatically downloaded from the Microsoft Store.
