Asphalt 8 (Airborne)
Windows 11 24H2 is blocked due to Asphalt 8 (Airborne) game. Some people may not even realize they have this game installed, but it is one of the reasons they may not get the upgrade.
There is a bug in the update that can cause the game to freeze, requiring a restart to continue playing.
Microsoft has locked down the devices running Asphalt 8 to help you play the game smoothly.
ASUS BSOD
For ASUS devices, especially the X415KA and X515KA models, the update may result in a blue screen error.
This issue, also confirmed by ASUS support, affects these two specific models due to compatibility issues.
Microsoft has stopped rolling out the update for these devices and you will only see the update when ASUS releases a firmware update via Windows Update or its own app.
Easy Anti-Cheat BSOD
For devices running Easy Anti-Cheat, which is required by popular games like Fortnite, the update may lead to system errors.
This issue affects devices with Intel Alder Lake+ processors and vPro technology, especially when using outdated Easy Anti-Cheat drivers.
To mitigate this problem, Microsoft has temporarily stopped updating devices with older drivers. You can try updating your games or drivers to access the update.
Intel Smart Sound Technology
Devices with Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) drivers may experience blue screen errors when updating to version 24H2. Microsoft and Intel have marked driver versions 10.29.0.5152 and 10.30.0.5152 as incompatible.
To fix this, you can update the Intel SST driver versions to 10.30.00.5714 or 10.29.00.5714 or later.
It may take up to 48 hours after the driver update for the Windows 11 update to become available.
Fingerprint sensors
Likewise, some users with fingerprint sensors may see their devices become unresponsive and their systems lock up !
Windows Hello fingerprint authentication will fail and you'll need to unlock your PC using your PIN or face recognition.
Microsoft has implemented a wait to avoid the issues on devices with this configuration. The goal is to release a firmware update to fix this issue.
Built-in cameras
There is another strange bug where using built-in cameras is no longer possible after upgrading to Windows 11 24H2!.
Users have reported issues with object or face detection features. This affects apps like the Camera app, Windows Hello facial recognition, and other third-party apps that use the built-in camera for detection purposes.
Microsoft has discontinued the update for these affected devices, but it's unclear how far the fan opens because built-in cameras are widely used in laptops.
Voicemeeter application
Additionally, if you are using the Voicemeeter app, you may get a blue screen with a MEMORY MANAGEMENT error when you open the app after installing the Windows 11 2024 update.
This error comes from an incompatibility between the Voicemeeter driver and the updated Windows 11 memory management.
Microsoft has stopped the update on installations that have Voicemeeter installed. Again, this can only be fixed when VB-Audio Software releases a fix.
Wallpaper customization apps
Wallpaper customizer apps also block Windows 11 24H2. This is because if you are using wallpaper customization apps and install the update, you may experience a lot of issues, from missing wallpapers to problematic desktop previews and error messages within the apps.
Microsoft recommends that users update their wallpaper apps to remove the compatibility wait.
Safe Exam Browser
Safe Exam is not your run-of-the-mill web browser, but an application that allows universities and companies such as banks to run their internal exams more securely.
Unfortunately, for those using Safe Exam Browser versions 3.7 or lower, the browser will not work after updating to Windows 11. To help businesses and universities that rely on Safe Exam Browser, Microsoft is restricting such devices from the Windows 11 24H2 download.
What do you do if Windows 11 24H2 is paused on your device?
Microsoft recommends that users avoid attempting manual updates through the Windows 11 Setup Assistant or the media creation tool that can and do affect compatibility permissions.
Instead, check for new updates to the specific software or hardware drivers that may be causing the hang and see if they remove the update block.
Each block will be unblocked at some point in the future, and forced upgrade attempts could cause significant problems, including blue screen errors.
