If you are one of those running Windows 11, you will have noticed (or not) that Windows 10 is still faster than Windows 11. Even if running in a virtual machine, Windows 10 is faster and overall, it seems “lighter” than its successor.
The animations in Windows 11 look heavy and a bit strange even on a fairly capable computer. Going back to Windows 10 is not an option, but there is a simple solution that not everyone knows about.
If you are a Windows 11 user, you should disable all animations.
There are two ways to turn off animation effects in Windows 11. One is from Settings > Accessibility > Visual Effects. Turn off “Animation Effects.”
The second option is found in the older “System Properties” applet.
Press the Win + R keys together to open run, type sysdm.cpl to open the applet and go to the Advanced tab.
Click “Settings” in the Performance section and disable the following options:
- Moving controls and elements within windows
- Window movement when minimizing and maximizing
- Taskbar gestures
or in English
- Animate controls and elements inside windows
- Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing
- Animations in the taskbar
Of course, you can leave some of these options enabled if you want. Changing all three settings will also disable “Animation Effects” in the Accessibility settings section. Note that these settings affect not only the general Windows 11 user interface, but also animations in various apps.
It should be noted that this simple tweak will not make your computer run faster or generate more FPS in games. It will only address the ugly animations, which, unfortunately, are still present in Windows 11. Your computer may be running perfectly fine and without performance issues, but slow animations play a big role in how you perceive performance.
