Windows 12.2: The Next Evolution

Earlier this year, creator AR 4789 revealed his vision for what Windows 12 could be like. In the past, the YouTuber has drawn similar ideas for Windows 12 Mobile, Windows Classic Remastered (CR), Windows XP, and more. Now, he's released a new video for "Windows 12.2."

In case you're wondering why he named the video Windows 12.2, it's because the YouTuber has already released the "Windows 12 Lite" and "Windows 12.1 Pro" versions.

The latest version, 12.2, is showcased in a 9-minute video on the creator's YouTube channel, with the first three minutes showing the installation process.

When it shows the desktop, we have a version of Windows that looks similar to Windows 11, with one key difference. Everything seems to be organized into containers, including the desktop icons. The Start menu looks a bit cleaner and closer to Windows 10 than Windows 11.

File Explorer has also been redesigned, with an emphasis on transparency effects and a container-like UX. There are also animations as you move from one window to another.

Commenters on the video praise the design aesthetic and the similarities to KDE Plasma. They even wish Microsoft would hire the designer. While the idea is undeniably elegant, it’s important to note that Microsoft hasn’t even officially confirmed the release of “Windows 12.”

Of course, dreams never hurt anyone.
