Microsoft's free upgrade policy allowed Windows 7 and 8.1 users who had installed Windows 10 before 29 July to activate their copy without paying.
According to ZDNet, the free upgrade continues to exist until today and Microsoft has stated:
"Users upgrading their PC for the first time will need to enter a key productof Windows 10. Users who already had Windows 10 installed on their PC will be automatically activated when reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC.”
Only it seems that activating Windows 10 with a legit key of Windows 7 or 8.1 continues to normally activate the new operating system even on computers that are upgraded for the first time.
Of course, such "errors" that extend the free upgrade we had predicted would exist before the end of the free offer. The goal of one billion Windows 10 devices was not achievable even when the company had the product for free, let alone now.
You should only think of this: Today's leader is the one who possesses the most information (or the information), and the telemetry of the operating system perfectly serves this logic as well. Microsoft will continue to market their product anyway...remember the aggressive policy that forced the new OS onto some computers.
The company already has two complaints about this behavior.
