Microsoft started the process of removing the Mail & Calendar apps on Windows 11 (and Windows 10). While you will still be able to open the app, it will not work.
According to Microsoft, Outlook is part of Windows 11 and the Mail and Calendar app has already stopped working for some users as of January 1, 2025. Microsoft sources described the process of disabling the Mail & Calendar apps as “gradual” which means it will still work on some computers.
Many Windows users have started seeing a banner describing the official retirement of the Mail and Calendar app. The banner title reads, “Windows Mail and Calendar are no longer supported,” followed by a short description with some actions you can take.
It informs that the app will not be able to send emails or access calendar events. It will also redirect to the new Outlook app, which comes pre-installed through Windows updates. So there seems to be no going back. You can choose to export all of the app's data to the new Outlook app by clicking the Export Data button.
As we mentioned above, the app's removal is already happening, but at a gradual pace, and the app may continue to work for some until Microsoft stops it globally.
The process began on January 1, 2025 and is still ongoing.
The new Outlook app doesn't yet have the full feature set of the classic Outlook app.
However, Microsoft is starting to make gradual improvements and is slowly adding missing features, while removing some less useful ones.
The new Outlook is available by default and the old app has already been removed from the Play Store.
