Microsoft has released new details about its Windows Recall feature. Due to heavy criticism of the company over security issues, it has postponed the release of Windows Recall.
Now Redmond has unveiled an improved version of Recall, set to begin testing this fall.
The company says it is continuing its work on Windows Recall and that the first public builds of Windows 11 with Recall will be available to Windows Insiders starting in October 2024.
Microsoft promises to share more details about the feature before testing begins.
“With our commitment to delivering a reliable and secure Windows Recall (preview) experience on Copilot+ PCs, we are announcing that Recall will be available to Windows Insiders starting in October. As we announced on June 13, we have adjusted our release approach to leverage the valuable expertise of the Windows Insider community before making Recall available to all Copilot+ PCs. Security remains our top priority, and when Recall is released to Windows Insiders in October, we will share more details,” the company said on its blog.
Recall that experts who had access to the initial version of Windows Recall quickly discovered that the feature stores data in an unencrypted format . In its original implementation, Recall was a privacy nightmare and quite insecure.
So Microsoft discontinued the release.
