Yesterday, September 1, 2021, Microsoft announced the general availability of Windows Server 2022. The first release had already taken place in August 2022. At this time we do not know if Windows Server Essentials 2022 will continue to exist.
Hyper-V Server no longer appears to be a standalone product for Windows Server 2022, as this license is being phased out.
Of course no one seems to know what's going on with Windows Server 2022 right now. We have already mentioned the availability of Windows Server 2022 on August 21, 2021 when Windows Server 2022 LTSC was released. Redmond had released the product without any special announcement and those who were interested could download a trial version.
The product was released on August 18, 2021 and Windows Server 2022 is an LTSC version with basic support until October 13, 2026. The support extension expires on October 14, 2031. Microsoft has announced three versions of Windows Server 2022:
Windows Server 2022 Datacenter
Windows Server 2022 Datacenter: Azure Edition
Windows Server Standard 2022
On September 1, 2022, Bernardo Caldas of Microsoft, Vice President of Core OS and Edge Infrastructure, announced the general availability of Windows Server 2022 on the cloud blog.
