Windows 10: After an inappropriate shutdown, crash, power failure or when something goes wrong with your registry, Windows Update will not work properly. Sometimes you will notice that updates can not be installed on your system, or sometimes will not open.
Below we will see how you can restore Windows Update to its original state if it stops working in Windows 10.
To fix most of the Windows Update topics in Windows 10, in most cases it is enough to run the built-in Windows Update troubleshooter.
Open the Start menu and type: Troubleshooting and press Enter.
Click on "Windows Update Troubleshooting"
Click the “Run as Admin” in the dialog box and the troubleshooter will complete the Windows Update troubleshooter.
If Windows Update still does not work, you will need to restore it and re-enter all the service components.
Let's see how:
First, you need to open a command prompt window, your administrator.
(In the Start Menu search box, type cmd. Once you see the black icon, right-click on it and run as administrator).
See the image below (we use Windows in English)
Type the following commands μία μία:
sc stop bits sc stop wuauserv sc stop appidsvc sc stop cryptsvc
This will stop services related to Windows Update. Now we will have to pass the ingredients again as described below.
Windows Update uses many DLL files that need to be registered correctly.
If any of these DLLs are not properly listed, it may cause the issues discussed above. To write them correctly, you need to type the following commands:
regsvr32.exe / s atl.dll regsvr32.exe / s urlmon.dll regsvr32.exe / s mshtml.dll regsvr32.exe / s shdocvw.dll regsvr32.exe / s browseui.dll regsvr32.exe / s jscript.dll regsvr32. exe / s vbscript.dll regsvr32.exe / s scrrun.dll regsvr32.exe / s msxml3.dll regsvr32.exe / s msxml6.dll regsvr32.exe / s actxprxy.dll regsvr32.exe / s softpub.dll regsvr32.exe / with wintrust.dll regsvr32.exe / s dssenh.dll regsvr32.exe / s rsaenh.dll regsvr32.exe / s cryptdlg.dll regsvr32.exe / s oleaut32.dll regsvr32.exe / s ole32.dll regsvr32.exe / s shell32 .dll regsvr32.exe / s wuapi.dll regsvr32.exe / s wuaueng.dll regsvr32.exe / s wups.dll regsvr32.exe / s wups2.dll regsvr32.exe / s qmgr.dll regsvr32.exe / s wudriver.dll
Now, we need to make a reset on your network.
WARNING. You may need to re-configure the proxy server if you are using it.
Let's look at the reset commands:
ipconfig / flushdns netsh winsock reset netsh winsock reset proxy
Next, we will clear the Windows Update cached files. This will resolve any issues related to corrupted updates.
rmdir% systemroot% \ SoftwareDistribution / S / Q rmdir% systemroot% \ system32 \ catroot2 / S / Q
Finally let's start again the services we stopped at the beginning:
sc start bits sc start wuauserv sc start appidsvc sc start cryptsvc
Restart Windows 10, and Windows Update should work again.
