New International Innovation and Development Policies focuses on the International Conference WIRE 2014 organized by the National Documentation Center (ESF) and the European Commission, in collaboration with the General Secretariat for Research and Technology within the framework of the Greek Presidency of the Council of the European Union, in Athens, at 12-13 June.
The Conference “Week of Innovative Regions in Europe 2014” (WIRE V or WIRE 2014 ) (www.wire2014.eu) is the most important European dialogue forum for Regional Strategies, Innovation & Development, where the relevant European financial programs will be presented, in the presence of the European Commission Commissioner for issues of Research, Innovation and Science Máire Geoghegan-Quinn.
The WIRE 2014 conference, held for the fifth consecutive year, has established itself as the public debate for new regional development policies and programs. For 2014, it coincides with the launch of the European Horizon 2020 program for research and innovation, and the new European Structural and Investment Funds, and highlights tools and good practices for the effective implementation of the Intelligent Specialization Strategies of the Regions of Europe.
The WIRE 2014 conference will bring together representatives from the Regions, Research, Innovation and Enterprise sector at both European and national level and will promote dialogue in three main themes: a) European Regional Development Funding 2014-2020 development, b) Entrepreneurship as a lever for Innovation in the Regions, c) Scientific Excellence, Open Data and Exploitation of Knowledge for Regional Development.
The thematic section "European Financing for Regional Development 2014-2020" will present the main priorities of the current programming period, for research, innovation, entrepreneurship and regional development. The participants will present the new institutional framework governing European funding from the Structural and Cohesion Funds, and highlight the role of the knowledge economy and the importance of regional cooperation and synergies in achieving regional policy objectives.
The thematic section “Entrepreneurship as a driver of Innovation in Regions” will examine the links between regional innovation and business performance, and present the ways in which businesses they can contribute to the knowledge ecosystem. The speakers in this module, with long-standing experience, will present key achievements and good practices regarding the design, adoption and implementation of successful Intelligent Specialization Strategies (RIS3).
The use of open data and the free dissemination of knowledge are key preconditions for regional and local development, innovation and entrepreneurship. The theme of the WIRE 2014 conference "Scientific Excellence, Open Data and Utilization of Knowledge for Regional Development" highlights the importance of indicators for Research, Development and Innovation in the planning, planning, monitoring and evaluation of regional policies.
The official language of the conference is English and more than 400 people from 30 countries have already declared their participation: European Commission officials and international players, representatives from the Regions, local authorities, technology transfer agents and business associations, representatives of research centers and academics institutions, etc.
