WordPress 7.0 Armstrong

WordPress, the world’s most popular content management system, powers over 40% of all websites. Automattic, the company behind WordPress, has just released version 7.0, codenamed “Armstrong,” delivering a major update focused on artificial intelligence foundations, website creation controls, visual revisions, and a revamped management experience.

A major addition is the new Connectors screen, a central hub for managing integrations with external services, such as AI providers. Users can connect their preferred AI provider and use those integrations across their entire site. An optional AI plugin adds editing tools for creating headlines and excerpts, creating and editing images, and suggesting alternative text.

Additionally, for plugin developers, this system provides a standardized way to connect WordPress to external services instead of creating separate connection flows for each plugin.

WordPress 7.0 also offers a dedicated canvas for designing navigation overlays. Instead of being limited to a basic list of links, site owners can create richer menus with columns, alignment options, pre-built templates, or custom layouts built from scratch.

Additionally, in WordPress 7.0, patterns behave like a single block after they are added to a page, making it easy to swap out text and images or adjust styles without having to dig through nested blocks.

Another major change to the editor is on the visual side. WordPress 7.0 adds a timeline slider to review previous versions of a page, with visual indicators showing what has changed. Users can review previous versions and restore the one they want with a click.
