The WordPress Desktop application (for desktops) was developed by Automattic, a company founded by Matt Mullenweg, co-founder of WordPress. It is the developer of JetPack and owns WordPress.com.
The WordPress desktop application offers an enhanced user experience for pages using WordPress CMS.
However, like all applications running it has its pros and cons.
Advantages
It offers a nice interface for managing your site
It syncs your content fast and provides a great writing experience
It allows you to perform administration tasks on your page without opening your browser. This way you can upgrade plugins or respond to and manage comments.
Disadvantages
It does not work offline. This means you can't write posts and just save them to your computer using the desktop application.
It does not load custom fields created by plugins in the post editor. For example, if you use Yoast SEO, you will not be able to edit the SEO settings of the post.
It requires you to install JetPack and sign up for WordPress.com.
