Following the confrontation between Matt Mullenweg and WP Engine, WordPress changed its policy with clear reference to the hosting company.
Recall that Automattic CEO and WordPress co-creator Matt Mullenweg launched a scathing attack on a rival company this week, calling WP Engine a "cancer on WordPress."
Let's see the changes
Before:
The abbreviation “WP” is not trademarked by WordPress and you are free to use it however you see fit.
If in doubt about the use of the WordPress or WordCamp name or logo, please contact the Foundation for clarification.
Post:
The abbreviation “WP” is not trademarked by WordPress, but please do not use it in a way that confuses people. For example, many people think that WP Engine is “WordPress Engine” and is officially associated with WordPress, which is not the case. They have never donated to the WordPress Foundation, despite making billions in WordPress revenue.
If you wish to use the WordPress trademark commercially, please contact Automattic, who has the exclusive license. The only one with their sub-licensee is Newfold.
For non-commercial use, please contact us at the Foundation.
Let's mention that this company is one of the most expensive, without being one of the best.
