USA Today reports that the YouTube plans to launch a new app called YouTube kids on February 23.
It was reported as early as March of last year, but Google confirmed that it was working on such an app in December. The application, which will be free, will run on Android devices only at launch.
According to USA Today, the app will be separate from the main YouTube service and will feature an initial screen with eight choices of children's TV shows and other popular recommendations.
The children μπορούν να αναζητήσουν βίντεο πληκτρολογώντας κανονικά στην search or using their voice, a feature the company expects to be quite popular since many young children cannot type. The application will not be able to search for inappropriate terms, such as the term “sex” for example.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the application will be announced during the central talk session at the Kidscreen Summit next week.
