Google's warnings to users with adblockers have started. The first notification is a countdown of 3 video views until the user disables the adblocker.
In case you choose "Allow YouTube ads" without disabling the adblocker at the same time, it shows the following recommendations for disabling it
On the third attempt to watch a video, it blocks the user's access to the page with the following message
The problem is not with Google's policy on how it wants to grant its services to users, but with the fact that this message appears only on Firefox with Ublock Origin, while in Microsoft Edge with Ublock Origin or in Brave (in our tests) without any extension,it doesn't show it!
One hypothesis would be that the site executes a script and when it does not bring the expected result it concludes that it is being executed in a browser with adblock.
With base this one, installed the Noscript extension in Firefox to no avail, the block message keeps popping up!
In the second image, Google appears to be asking the user which extension they have installed, so as not to recognize it, but when i removed ublock origin from firefox and installed adguard then the message stopped showing and allowed access to youtube with videos playing without ads!
So the question arises how can the site recognize the existence of ublock origin only in Firefox and not in Edge ;
This means that the Firefox browser leaks at least the existence of ublock origin from the list of extension of. Because the logic of YouTube allowing some adblockers even if they violate its terms of use does not exist.
This report is the first on the web and on iguru gr, so we look forward to informing and engaging security researchers with theme.
For Firefox users, the solution is to disable ublock origin and install Adguard :

Note 21/12/24 :
The problem was found in many users and the solution found is to deselect it ublock quick fix filter on S routesettings>Filter list>my filters>built in
I have the exact opposite issue. Edge is blocked due to ublock and Firefox works fine..
The same thing happened to Edge.
I just right clicked on the warning until I blocked it entirely via ublock origin.
At the moment, however, I have no problem in firefox v133.0.3 + ublock v1.61.2
The exact same thing happens with Brave. In fact, there was an announcement on the company's social media that they are trying to solve it. Fix it please.
Brave is an ad-blocking browser, no ad blocker extension needed.
https://brave.com/learn/youtube-ad-blocker/#how-to-block-youtube-ads
The company's latest announcement on the matter
https://x.com/brave/status/1870441162047123756
they immediately addressed the problem, which is why it didn't appear to the majority of users, including me
https://x.com/brave/status/1870220973334544685
so it is not the same with Brave as with Firefox, which is not an ad blocking browser and needs an extension for this task.
