The headquarters where the project OpenBSD, they face a risk of unsustainability due to the costs mainly related to consumption electrical energy. Due to the lack of financial resources its founder and chief engineer project Theo de Raadt, calls through the mailing list marc.info, to companies that would like to support the continued development of OpenBSD as sponsors.
We are looking for a Canadian company who will take on our electrical expenses - on their books, rather than on our books. We would be happiest to find someone who will do this on an annual recurring basis.
The discussion has started a month ago but still no solution has been found to the problem and as Raddt mentions the moving of the machines to another region with less costs is not even up for discussion, for many reasons.
There are other operating costs and difficulties that burden the development of the project, such as the maintenance of the equipment consisting of old machinery that requires hard-to-find and expensive equipment. It is understandable that the financial constraint of a project non profit it also creates technical adversities that its creators and coordinators take into account and try to overcome.
