10MB disk with incredible size: In order for the hard disks to reach the point we know today, they have gone through many stages. Imagine that the landmark of capacity 1 terabyte we only got there in 2007, so it took 51 whole years. 2 terabytes came much faster, in 2009, meaning it only took 2 years.
This difference gives us an idea of its growth rate technology of digital storage that actually started in 1956.
But the evolution of capacity is not the only impressive element since there have been very significant changes in the size and price of hard disks.
Until 1957, data was stored on tape. Then for the first time IBM presented the hard drive 305 RAMAC (Random Access Method of Accounting and Control). It consisted of 50 boards, had a diameter of 24 inches and a total capacity of 5 MB, a huge capacity for the time.
The disk cost $ 35,000 a year (renting because IBM did not sell the disk) and had a double the size of a refrigerator.
