Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit (EMET) Microsoft is a program aimed at blocking exploits before completing their purpose.
Without EMET, these attacks will be able to accomplish their purpose and thus will be considered successful, while with EMET you will have one last chance to block them.
Although it is EMET it's not a solution that will protect you from any kind of malicious code running on the Internet, it does not use many resources on your system, and at the same time adds another level of protection to Windows computers.
Microsoft has just released EMET 5.2, a new version of the Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit that updates the previous version of 5.1.
Note that the company now offers two different versions of EMET. First, the 5.2 version, which is the latest, and then the 4.1 Update 1 version, which it will support until 9 June, 2015.
The Microsoft EMET 5.2 comes with three new features two of which are intended to enhance protection in all supported operating systems and the third only for operating systems running Windows 8 and above.
All EMET installations benefit from Control Flow Guard, a new feature of Visual Studio 2015 that "helps detect and stop pirate code attempts". Control Flow Guard is only supported by Windows 8.1 and above, including Windows 10, which means it only benefits the systems running these two operating systems.
The second change improves the Attack Surface Reduction reduction by "stopping the VBScript extension" when it is loaded into the Internet Explorer Internet Zone. According to Microsoft, this protects against an exploitation technique known as VBScript God Mode.
The third and last change affects Internet Explorer. EMET supports reports and notifications that have Enhanced Protected Mode enabled from the Internet Explorer desktop.
The program will automatically upgrade to the existing version of EMET if you have it, or install the software again if you have not preinstalled it.
