GoDaddy warns of Phishing: The users of the domain registrar and web hosting company GoDaddy Inc. are once again the target of two new phishing scams attempting to gain access to their accounts.
The main phishing scam sends emails to company users reporting that their domain has been sold, while a second, less well-known fraud concerns users receiving notifications and states that their inbox is full.
GoDaddy Product Manager Joe Styler issued a warning about the first phishing scam last week, attaching the email he had as theme: "Congratulations! The following domain name has been sold at auction”, while pretending to be from GoDaddy itself.
The second phishing email is aimed at users who use GoDaddy to host their website. The email purports to be from support@godaddy.com and claims that space their e-mail account's storage has reached its limit and that they cannot receive new messages.
Malicious e-mail reports that users must upgrade their account within 24 hours or will be suspended.
The link provided in the message goes to the address
mtparent.com/themes/www.html_VV
which looks like a normal GoDaddy page. So if the user completes the form with his or her details, it actually sends them to the scammers, even though he is directed to a legitimate GoDaddy page.
Its users Chrome of Google and Firefox will be notified that the website they are visiting is fake, but users of other programs browsing they may not be so lucky.
