Η Huawei has already announced that its primary goal is to surpass Apple in smartphone sales worldwide, and as it turns out, the Chinese company has achieved its goal. Our data comes from the research company Counterpoint Research.
Although no details have been given on units sold, a chart released by Counterpoint shows that both Huawei and Apple have about 12% of market share, with a huge growth rate for the Chinese company in recent months.
Huawei overtaking Apple is not that much of a surprise, given the lack of new iPhone models, but also the improvements that the Chinese company presented to its models. Of course the biggest challenge it's currently set to retain that second spot after the iPhone 8 launches next month.
"It's an important milestone for Huawei, the largest Chinese smartphone brand with a growing global presence.
"Huawei's recent global success can be attributed to its continued investment in R&D (research and development) and industrial production, combined with aggressive marketing and expansion of sales channels," he said. of Counterpoint Research, Peter Richardson.
The bad news for Huawei is that the company does not have a model in 10's top smartphones in the global market share.
Apple is still the clear leader, with the iPhone 7 leading the race with 4%, followed by the iPhone 7 Plus at 2,9% and the Oppo R11 at 2,1%. The Samsung Galaxy S8 it is fifth with 1,8%, while Apple is again quite close with another model, this time with the iPhone 6, which continues to have a market share reaching 1,6%.
Counterpoint reports that this is because Huawei has many models on the market without any high end device, and that this could change very soon with its release Mate 10.
