One of the most recognizable brand names in the technology space seems to be giving up its identity. THE BitTorrent is without a doubt one of the most recognizable tech brand names, so it's surprising that BitTorrent Inc. changed her name to Rainberry.
According to the company, it was strictly a "corporate decision", but did not give any other incentive to make a change of this magnitude.
The company was founded by its inventor BitTorrent Bram Cohen. Since then BitTorrent Inc. made popular by the popular torrent client uTorrent. Contrary to most Companies file sharing companies, BitTorrent Inc. it was very well funded from the start. Accel was one of the first investors, along with Facebook and Dropbox.

However, over the last decade, BitTorrent Inc. she did not show she could win what her owner hoped. The company occasionally had new products and services, changing business models, but none of them had the success it had with uTorrent.
Things have gotten even worse in recent years, as it has been almost ruined by questionable management practices, according to Cohen. However, now under new leadership things are said to have improved. The company has pledged to redefine its efforts in what has been proven to work, namely uTorrent. With one new edition browser-based of the application released recently by the company shows that it has an object to deal with.
But BitTorrent Inc. it didn't stop there, since it acquired a new one name. Although not yet published, the company formerly known as BitTorrent Inc. became Rainberry Inc.
"Rainberry Inc is the official name of the company. and changed around the beginning of 2017, ”Rainberry product manager Jordy Berson told TorrentFreak. He said it was a purely corporate decision and that none of the existing product brands would change.
The best way to think about it is the example of Alphabet Inc. which is the official name of the company that most people know as Google.
With this logic changing the name is not unusual, but in this case the motive remains mysterious. Of course there should be a good reason for changing a brand that recognizes millions of people. Rainberry does not yet have a corporate website and is not mentioned on the official BitTorrent.com and uTorrent.com websites. In addition, all Rainberry employees still declare BitTorrent Inc. as their employer, while Rainberry does not seem to exist yet on Linkedin.
