As of today, the Google Assistant can speak two languages at the same time. Initially the new Google Assistant feature will be able to speak a combination of English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Spanish. Multilingual support will be expanded to include more languages in the coming months.
Google Assistant is the first digital assistant from competitors Siri, Bixby, Alexa and Cortana that can "speak" two languages simultaneously.
Google Assistant multilingual support is available from today in many Appliances που λειτουργούν με τον βοηθό, όπως τα smartphone με Android, τα ηχεία Home και τα tablet που τρέχουν με Android. Η μόνη εξαίρεση σε αυτόν τον κανόνα είναι τα έξυπνα ηχεία με οθόνη που περιέχουν το Goοgle Assistant, όπως το Lenovo Smart Display which launched last month and JBL Link View which is expected to launch in the coming weeks.
To add support in two languages, just open the Google Assistant Settings and select Assistive Languages in the properties. Once enabled, you will be able to freely switch between the two options.
Google was able to do it automatic multilingual speech recognition act on Google Assistant using the LangID model to recognize languages. Another algorithm is then used to achieve speech-to-text in milliseconds. Google will later try to enable its Assistant to speak three languages at once, according to a post on the Google AI blog which explains the process.
Google is preparing to add more than 30 languages to Google Assistant by the end of 2018. Expanding the service to new markets and non-English speaking areas world is a particular challenge for the company, as Google Assistant's language understanding has been found to be 30% less accurate in accents used outside the United States.
