4.794: The total number of vulnerabilities reported in 2013

Η GFI Software has published a report on vulnerabilities identified and reported in 2013, with data from the National Vulnerability Database. The number of security blanks reported in 2013 reached 4.794, which represents an average of 13 new bugs each day.

It is worth mentioning that this is the largest number of errors reported over the last five years.

According to the Product Manager of GFI Software, Cristian Florian, about a third of the reported errors were classified as "highly critical".

The top ten companies - a list that includes Oracle, Cisco, Microsoft, IBM, Apple, Google, Mozilla, Adobe, Red Hat and HP - were responsible for half of the total number of errors .

The largest number of bugs found in Oracle's – a total of 514, 193 of which affected Java. When it comes to high-risk bugs, most of them involve Microsoft software.

In 2013, the most targeted applications were Internet Explorer (128), h Java (193), c Chrome (168), c Firefox (149), c Thunderbird (113) and c Firefox ESR (100)
