Today it is hard to believe anything on the internet, especially after the arrival of Generative AI. A lot of fake and misleading messages circulate on the internet frequently and lightning fast. However, Google is trying to remedy the situation by making available tools that can check certain elements such as images.
Google released the About This Image tool worldwide.
The About This Image on Google Search is available worldwide to all English-speaking users. Provides valuable information about images, such as image history, how others describe that image, how they use it, image metadata (when available), and clues as to whether the image was generated using Generative AI.
You can access this tool by clicking the three-dot menu below an image in Google image results. You will find the “About This Image” option.
Fact Check Explorer is another tool journalists can use to check images online. It can find information about images from independent organizations worldwide. It gives users an overview of the image and its usage over time.
Google has released the beta version of Image Search in the FactCheck Claim Search API. Access to the specific tool, you can request from here.
